German Stein #'rd

    I got 2 steins today, I was wondering if anybody knew the age of this stein and who the man is on the face ?

    That is not a specific person, rather an archetypal Bavarian or Alpine character. Others can tell you more about the age.

    Only thing I can venture on the age is that the pewter lid has probably never been polished, giving some idea. 20 th C. For sure, but when were things marked “”Germany” vice “West Germany.” Could it be pre-WW2, or post-Wall-fall, say 1990’s?

    this was never properly regulated.
    there were companies that marked Western Germany -especially on the Rhine - before WWI to put the stress on not being Prussian.
    West Germany and Western Germany were used alike after WWII when the differentiation between the western zones fell apart.
    Germany on its own was often used on GDR products sold to western wholesale dealers that then exported themselves to the US and other countries (radios, cameras, glass, books etc.).
