great thread! I have two favourites!
so first is this gold-fill "etruscan revival" style bangle- I love the ball going through the loop design and happy that the gold-fill seems to be in very good condition
    hinged bang.jpg
and second, because as others have said, most recent buy often = favourite buy until the next one, a sterling mexican brick bib that I literally just bought today

    @Jivvy
I’ve seen those in Mexico, you’re supposed to put a live fly inside and the movement of the fly makes the ears, eyes, snout and and tail move. :)

Edit: This “fly pig” blog shows one like yours made by the Novelty Toy Crafters Co. of Chicago in the 1930s.

Ohhhh, thank YOU! That is him exactly -- including shape of tail.

Sad little bloke managed to keep his parts for 80+ years and then I came along, poking and prodding. He didn't stand a chance. *sigh*

Well, his nose and tail won't be so wiggly, but they will be attached.

At least no flies were harmed. :hilarious:

"At least no flies were harmed", lol Jivvy!

@aaroncab I still remember when you made the post about this piece. It literally took my breath away when I saw the photo. I have thought about your glass piece many times since your post. Can only imagine seeing that rolled out in a cart at the thrift...

What a great thread. FANTASTIC finds folks! Absolutely glorious. :)

At first I wasn't going to join in, was thinking, "What would I pick?" But then realized I do have something. Late in the day at a garage sale, has a small repair, knew it was an older bronze, garage sale price so didn't hesitate. At the time I was reading "H is for Hawk", it was all serendipity. At 8" it displays really well, I never tire of looking at it.

The 18K Omega for two bucks has to be the best just because there was 35 pickers in the door ahead of me

I have 2, first is a piece of furniture I found to finally take the place of a piece of junk we bought years ago, a mid to late 1800s pine piece:

    PineChest.jpg

And best of all, an Art Nouveau Unger Brothers sterling pin I bought last Spring:

I love this story - and the statue! And I love "H is for Hawk" - I've read it twice before and was thinking I'd like to read again this winter, it's so full and amazing. It's also a lovely, and true, serendipitous story.

But finding this statue at the same time of reading the book is the winning event and says how providence at times is so much a part of our lives while also being ethereal enough to not realize it happened until later....so I'm wondering how many of you find exact (or close to) things you were just thinking about, both pointedly and laterally? Or if saying so will then stop the process? I know a very open mind is also necessary when perusing the shops...but even so. ;) edit: Kimbert's recent stunning find is one, certainly!

I once recognized this quite consciously when finding a pair of affordable jeans that actually fit - at a very small thrift store - when I didn't have the $30 (or more!) to spend on new ones. But I'm sure I've had other experiences of this kind and you guys, as collectors of specific items, perhaps more so since you're out looking for these on a regular basis. But those times when the odds are...well, just a thought. :) I have a couple things to add here although they weren't bought this year but instead found in all my stuff (not the paintings) as I was busy cleaning, sorting, clearing...I'll post soon.

Yeah, I realized that soon after posting that most of you will have many stories to tell but can you perhaps say how often? Or narrow down to favorites? And this could be a new thread (if not already one out there) of favorite 'coincidences'. I'm a newbie here, so not sure how to do this, but more so I don't have those jeans anymore as a first post....:hilarious::hilarious:
