Has anyone seen a freshwater pearl similar to the shape and size of the pendant on this one? Any info or ideas on what this kind of necklace might be called, it’s origin, age, etc. would be greatly appreciated!

Necklace measures approx 17.5” long and the pendant is 2” long by 1” wide.

Elastic? If it's only 17 inches long there's no other way to get it over your head, unless it's a doll necklace of course. If it's actually 34 then no clasp needed. The chunk on the end looks like a freeform freshwater that wants to be a blister pearl when it grows up.

You’re right, it’s 34”, sorry about that. Thank you for your help!

This is from a while ago, but I think you still might get some answers here....

    http://www.pearl-guide.com/

"There's a section called "What Kind of Pearls Do I Have?" where you can post pearls and people give their opinions on what they have. I posted there a month or so ago and a couple of people replied within 24 hours.

You have to sign up, and there are instructions on how to photograph your pearls (natural light on a white background, if I recall correctly). I'm going to keep them in mind for future use as I know zip about pearls.

There's also a lot of information on the different kinds of pearls on that site."

The pendant reminded me of this video I came across a while ago.

I don't know anything about pearls really, the only comparison I can draw is the fact that it's a big weird rock like shape, so I really couldn't say what I think the type of pearl is, but an interesting little video to watch nonetheless! :D

Are the pearls gray or white? The spacers appear to be tarnished sterling silver. Do you agree?

Not an expert here, but your necklace looks like a lot I've seen offered by QVC. Perhaps made by Honora? In the last 10 - 15 years. If you look over on QVC for some Honora freshwater pearl necklaces, you can get info about the pearls and some good keywords.

The pearls are white - and I agree about the tarnished silver. Thanks so much for your input!

The pearls in the main part of the necklace look like they are cerclé, or circle pearls as they have come to be known. Any pearl that is not spherical is considered baroque. I would call these barrel shaped, but see them offered also as potato pearls. The large pendant pearl is of a type that appeared on the market sometime 15 - 20 years ago. Maybe @Hollyblue remembers more. The one that links the pendant to the rest of the necklace does look smooth & spherical, so wonder whether that one is also a cultured pearl or an impostor.
