Hey all, this is my grandmother’s. She is 96. I try my best to research my items, and have scoured images for awhile, but this is way outta my wheelhouse. Only have one pic, really not much else to show, eyes move, no identifying marks to be found.

Celluloid from the 40s would be my guess.

Does she have any marks on her back .. on shoulders or back of the neck ?? Other than that she appears to be a hard plastic doll from the late 1940'S through to the 1950'S, and likely with her original dress, not antique but collectible ... Joy.

Thanks guys, that is what I was looking for. Next time I am at my storage unit, I will double check the back. Cheers!

You didn't give measurements. Bet she is only about 6 inches tall.
    1950s bride doll

I know, because I had one.

Sorry, yes, that’s about right. Definitely quite short. Thank you

    She wasn't an expensive doll.

She's the same quality as the dolls that came on boxes of Valentine candy. But that wasn't where the bride doll came from.

Yeah, I could tell she wasn’t expensive. I liked the wardrobe, but the rest was fairly straightforward to my untrained eye. There just wasn’t much detail. I like the history most, I will see what I can find out. Thnx again

In what way? The eyes on the eBay doll look painted on. If grandma is 96 now, she was too old for dolls by 1940. If she is your maternal g'ma, maybe doll was your mother's? Or an aunt's, from either side?

The ebay doll is different. The eyes on Jamo's look like they can move.
I agree, the doll is too recent to be his grandmother’s.

Yes, these dolls were definately manufactured in the forties and fifties .. maybe grandma purchased this doll during that time ... vintage .. Joy.

Check out PMA dolls.......she might be marked on her back.

    Eyes very similar to PMA.

Exactly what I was thinking of (although, I was thinking chocolates in general, not necessarily Valentines) -- I have a couple of such in the cedar chest that came with boxes of candy that my dad gave my mom. My parents met in 1953-4.

@Bronwen Mother was 26 and would have also been "too old" for dolls. :p

I swear I did not remember that one of them was a bride doll. :hilarious:

If Granny is 96 in 2018, I make her birth year as 1922. In 1940 she was 18. Mother was 26 in 1940? My widowed grandfather's second wife was slightly younger than my mother. (He, 89; she, 59 when they married. She predeceased him.)

Post confusion! MY mother was 26 in 1953 when she got the above doll.

Unrelated to OP...as far as I know. :woot:

You two are confusing me, I though Jivvy's mother was 26 in 1940.

Edit: Jivvy just posted. I will now leave this to you two, all these numbers are totally beyond me.

My dad would buy the valentines boxed heart with the doll on top. Mom would get the chocolates, I would get the doll.

I don't remember seeing the boxes of candy with dolls on them at any other time of the year.

    @Bronwen
I don't see why grandma would be too old to receive a doll at any age.

Conclusion, people were buying or being gifted these dolls when they were too old to play with dolls, but they still enjoyed having them.:dead:
