Featured Vintage Narcotics Education/ Warning Book with "Groovy" Illustrations

Hi Everyone,

I could use some help in finding a price for this book I have.

I found the 1970 plain cover version of it on Amazon & the 1973 version that was picked up by Random House but not this 1971 version by Ramapo House. If someone can find it, I'll bet it doesn't list for much, but the illustrations are, as they say, are "priceless."

Also, any advice on removing those stains? I'm thinking artist's gummy eraser.

This book could have been my Gospel in the 70s

I saw the version you mentioned They even changed the ampersand to "and" on that copy.

Those illustrations really do typify the late 60s early-mid 70s. Really cool.

There was a funny TV commercial here in the US back then (a little later) that used an egg and frying pan as a metaphor. "This is your brain {the egg}, this is your brain on drugs {egg goes into frying pan and sizzles}"

 

I remember that commercial sabre.

Remember the movie "Reefer Madness"?

 

Oh yeah! Used to play at midnight around here on occasion. Good times!

 

I loved the dream scene in Postcards from the Edge Movie where a pretend Nancy Reagan is walking down the hall with her finger raised and wagging back and forth in slow motion as a no no. The white house war on drugs... some war, they had Elvis the king of pills there to tell people not to use drugs.

 

So, you could gently try the artists eraser, as long as it's in pencil....not sure about other stains! You could also try "www.AbeBooks.com", "www.Biblio.com", "www.BookFinder.com" as well, all are for all sorts of used and hard to find books....if you haven't tried them....

 

Who didnt watch that STONED ?!? LOL !

 

Me. I may be the only one here to raise my hand and say I was never stoned. I am too much of a control freak to get stoned. LOL

 

I totally remember that commercial as well as the one with the father & son. Here they are in case anyone has no idea what we're talking about.

 

Lol! Speaking of Nancy, remember this in 1983, a year into the Reagan Administration's "War on Drugs"? Classic!

The illustrations in that book are hysterical.

 

Me too, for pretty much the same reason. I enjoy myself most when I'm most lucid.

Me either. I tried getting drunk once or twice in college, but that was as far as it went. Decided I liked caffiene a lot better.

This one went into the lexicon far enough that people started ordering a brain on drugs for breakfast in diners!
