At that size, it was likely intended as a bonbon dish. Not the quality of the larger basket linked, which likely dates to the early 20th century, with a nod to earlier European pieces. I'm bothered by the small areas of dark wear and chipping on some of the high points, could be tarnished silver or silverplate under a lacquer finish (frankly, would expect a mark of some kind if solid silver).

Can't take time to poke around much, but here's a silverplate basket somewhat similar to yours and the sterling piece linked, though a bit larger than you guesstimate yours:

Look for marks hidden in plain sight. I go over every inch of my pieces with a jeweler's loupe and sometimes still have trouble finding marks I know I've seen before. As Roaring20s said, look for signs of wear. Also, silver is more pliable than plate - gently test an edge or the handle.

Thank you all for your help! I apologize I was busy all day and just now got a chance to check. I will try the banana peel out tomorrow. It will tarnish if it's solid silver or silverplate? Is that correct? Also how long should that take approximately? I will also test the pliability tomorrow. Thanks again everyone

Oh also does silver polish work on anything other than silver? This piece was extremely tarnished and blackened in a lot of the crevices (as it still is in a few areas) and I cleaned it for a very long time, it was a very tedious process but it turned from black and kind of a yellow-ish (?) to the silver. Probably should have included this information earlier but was afraid at getting chastised for cleaning it lol

Personally, I like its new polished look. There would be no banana peels for me. The air will get to it quickly enough. Although I would likely go over it with a silver polishing cloth to brighten it a bit. What do you plan to do with it, if you don't mind saying?

I also personally like it much better now. I will probably try to sell it on eBay, that's what my original plan was.

Then you do need to figure out if it's sterling or plated, big difference in price. But it's darling and I think you will not have any trouble selling it. At this point, my guess is plated since there are no marks to indicate sterling.
