Can anyone help with this carved face mask?

Its 17cm diameter and 1150 gr . There is no makers mark but only a number
Unfortunately It's damaged
Any help abouth the age, origin and the damaged value is much appreciated

Not my area, but guessing it's Mary Magdalene.

 

Are you sure it's carved? From the back it looks like molded plaster

 

No im not sure. But to mine unedicated eye the material looks marble also Its 1150gr. Plaster would weight less, right?

 

It could be made of some type of marble slurry. I don't see any marks on the back besides numbers which is most likely the mold or model number. It almost looks more like a lid than a plaque.

i made a few closeup with mine Phone and perhaps youre rhigt. I dont see any chisle marks. The surface is to smooth. Perhapse sme slury .

Definitely molded. If not plaster, maybe reconstituted marble.

I considered several possibilities for the subject, but, all in all, although she is not usually depicted with her head covered in this manner, I think @sabre123 is correct that it's Mary Magdalen.

Parian ware! I've never heard of parian ware, so porcelain with feldspar! Am I wrong to think that the damaged area can be easily repaired?

You should hold it the same standard as bone china— if you’d repair broken china yourself then your hand-eye coordination is where they need to be to satisfactorily rebuild/repair this, though your choice of filling affects value long-term. If you’d usually take china to a professional, at least you can be sure that Parian is covered by most reputable restorers as an industry standard

 

Happy New Year Komo! I’ve been trying to get a job in Edinburgh and survive family during the holidays! Picked up a very rough little souvenir totem the other day (from somewhere like Alaska or Canada) and thought of you- not because of the roughness though, may I note!

I was just happy to read that a repairer can repair damaged part fairly easily as it is not real marble

what will be an appropriate price for this?

would the damage affect the selling price considerably negatively?

Get a feel for the price with some googling before repairing it, the repair won’t help your profit margin unless it’s a particularly valuable piece. Parian was created as an “affordable alternative”— not cheap per se, but not particularly collectable in a lot of cases.

 

PArian will feel a bit gritty on the teeth. That damaged area doesn't look like damaged Parian to me. Too shiny and not granular. Looks more like the reconstituted marble idea. Does it feel warm or cool if you hold it to your cheek?
