I have a very large cream and sugar set that I believe to be ABP. The Sugar is 3 1/2" high and the creamer is 4" high to the rims. I've looked in my one book and on the net some, but can't ID them. Frankly, I'm not hopeful. So was wondering if anyone has any good guesses. Some distinguishing features are the cut ridges on the top rims and the fact that the hobstars on the body bow out on all 4 sides. Which I think is kinda cool. Other than admiring it, I'm extremely weak on ABP glass. More siggies would help, but these are not marked. Here they are. Comments are most welcome! TY

Which book do you have, Pam?

It's called American Brilliant Cut Glass by Bill and Louise Boggess, copyright 1977, 4th printing June, 1979. I've never found it to be very helpful, I think I have a mental block on ABP.

For instance, they call the ridges around the top a Line Motif and show 3 pieces that have line cuts, but they don't say (or know) who made them.

Ok. I have Swan's American Cut and Engraved Glass, so I'll look there. Didn't want to be looking there if you had already done so.

Swan calls those lines "steps or horizontal prisms."

Bakers, in the Boggess book I saw a Flower Arranger with the same step cuts at the top and the same scalloped edge. Other than that, nothing looked similar. But I'm trying to narrow down on some Hoare cream/sugars just to see.

Done and no luck. Plenty of horizontal prisms but not in conjunction with the other design elements of your set and nothing it all with the scalloped edge treatment. Sounds like you did better than I did.

Thanks, bakers! I can always sell it without a maker and pattern. I will just have to work a little harder on the photos. Looking at it in person, it will make you gasp! But not so much in my photos, lol! And, cream and sugars aren't as popular as some other shapes so the photos have to make you want it. :D

All of Swan's photos are black and white, with the light coming from an angle to emphasize the cuts, it appears. I had a piece to be identified a while back and getting good pictures without a professional light box was a bear!

Do you have a Facebook account? If so, the American Cut Glass Association Discussion Group is remarkable when it comes to IDs. I think the ACGA also has a website, so you may want to look there if you can't post on FB.
