    Hi all.
I recently found this stack of bracelets, i think that is bakelite, i did some tests on it but because this is my first buy with bakelite jewelery , i would really love to hear your opinion on them. I am afraid to do hot pin test, just because even if they arent bakelite they are still beautiful vintage bracelets.
Thank you all for your opinions.

Very nice, Irenka. I wonder if they are lucite (perspex)?
I agree, never use a hot pin on anything.:nailbiting:
Testing for bakelite is often done by putting a bit of simichrome on a q-tip and rubbing it on the item. If it is bakelite the q-tip should turn red or reddish brown.

No i dont think that is lucite. It has all the signs that it is bakelite, there is no sign of molding edges and they do sound beautiful when you clank them together, which is the tell tell sign of a bakelite, you know the flepper dancers used them not only for decor but for the sound too...But i am very perplex because i dont have anything to compere them with.. i really need to go to store to buy simichrome :)

The colors are all wrong for bakelite. Unless these were kept in a bank vault and in a vacuum, bakelite oxidises. That speckle is all wrong too; bakelite has swirls if it's not a solid color. I'd bet on some sort of acylic.

    I think those are 60s plastic/acrylic.

hmm, i didnt buy simichrome yet, but the smell test and the sound test, are making me belive that it is bakelite... i am confused with the specks too..and if they are 60s plastic bracelets what is the value then?

Oh and if it was plastic wouldn't they have casting edges? They dont have any edges or anything like that which is the tell tell sign of a plastic piece...
