Mysterious Silver Snuffbox. Made in (Country?) in (1xxx?)

I bought this today, along with a silver vinaigrette (I'll make a thread about that one later). It's silver, and that's all I know about it. I don't recognise any of the marks...

I don't know anything about it, and neither did the lady who sold it to me.

I showed it to three people already. One thinks it's from the 1820s, one thinks it's from the 1920s. And the third thinks it's also likely from the early 1800s. And I don't know which one to believe.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury, what say you? Have you arrived at a verdict?

 

Looks late 18th to early 19th century to me.

 

That was the shared opinion of two other dealers I showed it to, but they couldn't give me a date, beyond the early 1800s.

Another guy said it was 1910s 1920s Colonial Indian. Which I just don't buy at all. Almost all the colonial Indian silver I've seen has never had hallmarks on it. And this is festooned with marks all over. Problem is, they're not from a country that I recognise.

Never Indian. Can I just throw in that the engraving looks awfully Chinese.

 

I don't know, those flower baskets look very European. When was flower basket jewellery fashionable again, was it 1830s-40s?

 

first thing I'd check after cleaning would be the old Italian states. but that's just an idea.

A nice classical snuffbox, quality was for the independent worker, somebody who can pay around 3-400$ actually for his vice container. ;-)
This is for me the 17-18th century hallmark of Stettin, now in Germany.

 

For Szczecin/Stettin I only know this town silvermark:


It looks like a screaming chicken, but it is actually a crowned griffin head, which is the town crest:

I think you meant that Stettin used to be German. It is now Polish, Szczecin.

 

So. Any consensus yet? I've scoured loads of pages and websites, but...nothing yet.

The snuffbox is not Swedish, as the marking follow certain rules. Always all marks in a row and always with the state mark/control mark containing three crowns. Makers mark 2 or 3 letters or the full name in a rectangular frame.
Tricky marks, I must say. Can’t find them in my books.

 

These marks smell like those false Hanau marks the more I look at them, not that I'm even close to an expert. It would explain why no one really recognizes them. (of course I'm probably totally wrong but...)

What is the black coating on the bottom inside?It looks like part of it has flaked off and the "box" with the A may have another symbol with the A.

 

I've cleaned the interior as best as I can, including scraping off the black crusting of whatever the hell that stuff is. There's no other marks, and nothing next to the A.
