Antique Fireman Group Photograph 74 People!

I haven't had any more luck on IDing the building. The round portico on the building looks like a possible add-on or at least the top bacony on that portico. The arrangement of the Ionico columns look weird to me. The portico has the colunms in 3s: small column, large column, small column. I don't believe I've ever seen double, triple, set of columns in that arrangement. There are the shorter Ionic columns along the lower balcony/porch then bang, you get to the rounded portico. The portico has those huge tall Ionic columns stretching to the upper balcony with the shorter columns still there. It seems if that upper balcony on the rounded portico was there originally the small columns would not be on the rounded portico.

I really see very little similar to the south portico of the Whithouse other then Ionic columns. The Whitehouse doesn't have the extended porches/balconies, the small round windows around the top level, or the same railings. The Whitehouse's south portico didn't have the upper balcony until 1950. Truman had it added. The Whitehouse's portico is much more decorative. It has a gallery with railing around the roof, dentil work under the cornice, peak and arch pediments over the windows on the lower balconey. The great majority of rounded portico on stately buildings have Ionic or Doric columns here in the states.

Thank you so much for all of your help! Unbelievably grateful for the help. Still on the search myself for any type of houses with similar windows. I guess I must accept the possibility that we will never find out where it is! lol That does happen. Wish something had been written on the back! Or at the very worst, their belts had identifying letters!

 

Firefighters, like military members, would hold their hats over their heart for the raising or lowering of the flag, for a memorial service or anything like that. They all look very somber, so I would guess that they are at a memorial service for someone important. Not all of them are in sync, but with a group this large, it's amazing the photographer got them to be this organized.

 

My sincere condolences. It is so difficult especially when you have such major losses so close together. Hang in there.

As to the photograph, I also thought it had similarities to the White House.
Maybe this was a reconstruction from the Civil War or a reconstruction after a great fire? Just a thought.

Pretty darn close!! Was hoping it was the White House but guess it can't be. Though a similar style!

 

The posing of the group and the façade are so similar. There must be a state capitol building or some other public building that was designed along the same style. I was kind of taken aback when I saw it.
