I have a four piece bedroom set and I am trying to narrow down the date on manufacturing. The date is more important to me than the price, since I plan to keep the set. I am setting up a room in the house using furniture and decorations of the 1940's only. The previous owner of this furniture stated "I believe it is from the 1940's" but he wasn't 100% sure. Based on appearance this seems to be accurate, but wanted to bring it before you all for verification.

See photos. Each piece has the same tag on it, "United Furniture Co. Manufacturers Bedroom Furniture Lexington, NC". Some labels are more readable than others. I have posted photo of the clearest label only. There is another printed label underneath that reads, "Milford Furn Co. Milford, MASS". I believe, but am not sure that United is the manufacturer and Milford is the retailer.

Does anyone recognize the design, know much about the manufacturer or able to conclude year of manufacturing. label 1.jpg all 1.jpg Vanity 1.jpg dresser 1.jpg chestofdrawers 1.jpg bed 2.jpg

The little bit I found on United Furniture Co suggested that they were mainly during The Great Depression years, so more likely the 30s than the 40s.

And I think the designs on the pieces you've photoed are more likely 30s too.

Thanks birddog and bakers. Yes, I have also found that they made furniture between the early 20's until 1936 when a fire destroyed the building. I have found elsewhere that they rebuilt and started making again from the 1940's to the 1960's.
For my project, the 1940's room, I would be ok with it being built in the later 1930's since that would still be used and not that old in the 1940's. But it is from after the 1950's or earlier 1930's or 20's, I would probably sell and get something closer to date.
I am adding a closer look at the pulls and design. Not sure if it matters on this. pulls and design 1.jpg
    THanks again.

I can see why you'd have to be a bit flexible - between The Great Depression and WWII, furniture manufacturing wasn't a top business to be in for a lot of years.

    I like your set!

Thanks Birddog! The furniture, so I was told, has only ever been in two houses. The first from about 1930's(?) or 40's(?) until 1972 and then it remained in the second house from 1972 until I bought it at estate auction last Friday.
It is in fair to good condition, I would say.
    Have a Merry Christmas!
