Is this a more recent replica

    Found this that looks almost exact
    It does say primary material Bronze but this is plated (maybe theirs is too?) made the same)

    In my opinion the one you illustrate and the ebay item are of no great age.

    This is a souvenir from a place in Japan with a giant buddha statue, certainly not very old. The left two signs of the middle line of the inscription mean "Daibutsu", big Buddha, the rest I cannot read, but I would guess it is the one of Kotoku-In in Kamakura.

    Sharona,

    I had one of these same exact Buddha in miniature form with the same marks. If I recall correctly, they're 20th C. "tourist-type" pieces from the Kotoku-in Temple in Japan. Mine didn't sell well or at all if I'm not mistaken. The reason for the $100+ bids maybe do to the larger size?
