Wood type and age help Lacquered little container?

    Hi all I hope that someone can figure out what this little thing is.
    It is 2" tall, I think wheel turned wood. Very thin walled on the top then it gets thicker to the bottom to where it is over 1/2" thick.
    It's definitely not going to tip over lol. I have never seen this wood before either. The inside is red lacquer.
    That's all i know. any and all input appreciated.

    My guess is that it is a homemade, lathe turned toothpick holder.

    Looks a little like zebra wood.

    Are you sure its wood and not painted papier mache?

    No it is some kind of wood. I don't think anything else would be lathe turned?
