Moved my Dad to long term care yesterday (please send all your positive vibes and extra energy to me; I'm totally exhausted!), and found 3 pairs of binoculars and an old film camera whilst looking for other things. DH said the camera should be thrown away, took the small Pentax pair of binoculars for himself, and said maybe you guys might know if the remainder are worth aught or naught. Sorry, no pix, too tired.

Camera: Pentax ESPIO 115M with soft case.

Binoculars: Nikon 7 x 20. 7.1 (degree symbol) Then there are the numbers 118454 EB
    With soft case

    Kurt Muller 12 x 50 271 ft at 1000 yds. No. 55097
Kurt Muller Optica Triple Tested Lumenized Coated Lens
    With hard leather case

    Thanks!

I'm on the verge of doing what you just did !!

Taking away his independence and having to put him in the care of strangers , well I just can't imaging anything harder or more stressful.

( at least that's the way I feel about my Dad ! )

I hope you can find time to give yourself the needed boost to remain on an even keel !

The camera is not all that desirable but you have good pairs of moderate and high power glasses, they are not madly valuable but you have a binocular for all occasions, the 7X20 for general purpose, although a 7 x 30 would be better but less compact.
The 12 x 50 are good for birdwatching, nature, and voyeurism, bulkier but higher magnification and better light gathering power.

The first figure is the magnification, the second is the field of view in conventional form and the other figures express the field of view in other ways, one in degrees of arc and the other in what amounts mathematically to the same thing with a spot of trig. They just say how wide an area you can see at once.

It's up to you how you decide if you might ever need binoculars, but I'd not be without a pair round the house and you have two to pick the most appropriate from.

Sending my special "Karma" your way. I absolutely know how painful and exhausting it is.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Positive thoughts and energy coming your way -- rest up and relax as much as you can. It sounds like you are drained right now.

No help on your items, but wishing you strength and peace with your father's placement. From my own personal experience, no matter how good a facility it is, it would be wise for you to make sure when you visit to not visit on the same day, same time..unscheduled.. mix it up. If you want to know for sure how well he is being taken care of this is crucial. When the staff knows that family could "drop in" at any given time he will get better care. Sad but true. I have seen this for myself time and time again. Even in really good facilities. You have done the right thing for your father, hard but correct. Stay strong :)

Well, again my thanks. Yes, it's been stressful to say the least, but so far, so good.

AF, thanks for the info. I'll see if my son wants to have them. :)

A second to everything Tauriel said.

And re the binoculars...I keep a pair right next to my deck, which overlooks a river. :)
