Too bad about all the rim chips. Bevi Bene translates to Drink Well from Italian.

I think it reads Pesaro, Pesaro being an Italian ceramic center. Here's another Pesaro pitcher and you can see the "s" is not written in the modern style.

Hi Deb: do you have any idea how old your or mine is?

"Mine" is just an image I pulled off the internet and no dating was provided. Because Italy was practically a third world country until after World War II, things can look older than they seem. If I had to guess, I'd think early 20th century. But, of course, I could be wrong. There's a museum in Pesaro that has a ceramic collection; you can always ask. They might recognize the maker's mark.

The one Debora showed is 18th c. As to the one sunday silence has, it certainly looks like an 19th c one but I am not sure if the foot is consistent with that period. Maybe someone else has an opinion on that...

Mat, can you point to the the date attribution of my example? Or are you basing 18th c. on your knowledge?

Debora, unfortunately my knowledge of these is not too big, but your picture comes from the ceramopolis page and is dated there 18th c. The people running that website are very knowledgeable and the information given there should be correct.

Thank you, Mat, for confirming. I could have dug a bit deeper. Apologies.
