Good morning All and I wish you all a very Happy, Healthy Thanksgiving!
I found this outside a home/bed and breakfast that is up for sale in a nearby town. It was outside for weeks with other odds and ends. I waited, knocked and no one showed up so I left 5.00 in their door. It appears to be a dish drainer. The side compartments come off but I have never seen one like it before. I'm sure it's not very old but it is the coolest dish drainer I've ever seen. There's a few things I can think of to use it for. Can anyone give me some clue on it's history? Suggestions for use are very welcome. Too pretty to use as a dish drainer I think! resizeddrainer.JPG Thankyou so much!

Are you sure it's not a planter? Inspired by Victorian wirework?

No, I'm not sure what it is. My daughter-in-law also thought maybe a planter.

it was obviously abandoned when it lay around "outside for weeks with other odds and ends.".

It was an extremely uncomfortable situation for me. I noticed the items were all wet and I know they had been out for several weeks. I left money in the door anyway.

Do you know why the side boxes are removable?

I think you did the right thing. If they cared or wanted it it wouldnt have sat outside for so long. I can see planter, but I could also see it as a dish drainer ! A very cool one.

A planter in my opinion, not a dish drain.

It's easier to plant them up if they're in parts sometimes, that's quite a big thing. It would look rather fine with bulbs in the main part, something trailing on the ends. Line it with moss or coir matting.

This is definitely a dish drainer, ( a photo with plates would be fun ) sold approx 20 years ago ( in France anyway )
as pseudo vinage etc, the end complartments are for cutlery and sponges etc

    totally unpractical even if pretty,

Wirework is fun, but not for keeping earth "in" :)

Nothing wrong with wirework for a planter as long as you use a liner.
