That is the Georgian combination, from what I know of the Georgians here. Hospitable people who want to stuff you full of food. A bit like us Dutch-Indonesians, after the greetings you get a plate of food in front of you. Or several.

Perhaps its the lighting,but it does appear someone went to town with some gold paint. I thought they were a little earlier,perhaps 1880s or so. I agree with the others,they are stunning!

 

Doesn't the upholstery appear to be too fresh and new to be over 100yrs old, and the set appears to be unused too .. still, very beautiful ... Joy.

Hopefully you have pictures of the frame before it was reupholstered? We need to see the frame or unpainted surfaces to give any useful opinions. What did the original upholstery look like - what materials was it made of? Springs and what else? Do you have a picture of the wood before it was painted?
