Came across this serigraph and can not find this Sister anywhere, but I hardly ever pick up "art" so researching this has been a little difficult... as most "sisters" change their name upon entering the service of the church which makes it even more difficult... also does: O.P. /60
mean original painting 1960? this is #7 of 12 limited editions. Any thoughts? I like it and if it has no selling potential I will give it to my grandson Willie who will love it :)

I think the comma between her surname and O.P. means that O.P. is the order of nuns she belongs to. Not being Catholic, I have no clue other than what I have seen in other names of religious persons.

I found a website for the abbreviations of religious orders that indicted that the O.P. designation is used for the various groups of Dominican Sisters (grouped by geography it appears.)

Ah. I figured there must be an explanation of why they used those letters, but didn't know how to find it. Thanks, Bob.

bakers and more,.. thank you :), I too saw that after looking for O.P. I found several "Sister Mary Eymard's" but none of them seemed a match :( So does anyone think the 60 is the year 1960?

a self-portray of the French artist Marcel Eymard, who had a sex change (OP Operated Pelvis) at age 60, on his way to transgender.

IMHO....the selling potential is up to you !

While this is not ' my ' thing, I see a rather nice depiction of the face of Jesus, done by a woman of the cloth, in a very limited edition, 55 year old original Serigraph print, with a rocking hardwood oak frame.

i would have to think that there are devout christians out there who would eat this up , without much of a sales pitch.

On the other hand , if I knew my grandson would cherish this as a special gift from me ........that would be enough for me...to make it his !!

    I thought O.P. meant Ortist's Proof.

that would be written on the left side where the numbers are.

We had a family friend who was a nun and she painted too. Maybe the OP stands for any of the OP's on this site of
Bishops, Priests, Deacons, Nuns, Brothers, Sisters, Orders, Organizational Acronyms,
the letters associated with their names are:

This may be the work of Sister Mary Eymard Poydock, PhD., of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. I believe she was a cancer researcher, and I do know she was an artist. I purchased a large acrylic on canvas at an exhibit at Gannon University in Erie in about 1979, where I started my career. Both are Catholic institutions. I hope this helps you. God Bless!

I was just doing some research on a painting I have that was done by my great aunt when I found your post. It is signed Sr. Eymard as well. The "S" is a very similar style. Mine is an oil landscape. I never met her and I don't know that side of my family well, but I will see what I can find out. I can also post a photo once I figure out how do it.

Erin, to post a photo, click on the button "Upload a File" that is below the editing screen. You can choose to insert the whole photo, or a thumbnail. I think most people seem to prefer the entire photo to be posted. And it won't let you post extremely large files, so it's best to edit to a reasonable size first.

Thank you, Kristy. The person who started the discussion has not participated in this site for a long time. It is helpful to know that you have identified the artist.
