This (horribly dirty) ring is going up for auction (photos are not mine). Marked 10k and weighs 3.7 grams. It looks as if the gold has come off near the top (overlay?). I really like the style and I'm assuming the stone is aquamarine, which is my birthstone. Also, it's my exact size! However, I don't know much about jewelry, so any help with what I'm looking at would be great. Is it worth much? I'm in the midwest. 20211114_202013.jpg 20211114_201954.jpg 20211114_201937.jpg 20211114_201921.jpg 20211114_201853.jpg

Id be very suspicious as that sure looks like brass to me. I swear it looks like it was dug up from a grave !

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I'd rather NOT think about @johnnycb09's thought, BUT nothing a REALLY GOOD bath wouldn't take care of, probably!!!!

My concern is that the grunge could be hiding abrasions. Is there a minimum opening bid? How much?

Sorry I don’t know. Just for interest: What is that brown discolouration on or in the stone? Is that normal?

    I'm assuming it's crud.

Does the auction listing say anything about the brown? In some photos it does look more like inclusions of some sort.

Is this plating flaking off? It looks like plastic underneath

The ringed bits look like solidified hand cream/soap, it looks just like crud rather than metal loss. Stone could be topaz or aquamarine, other potential stones which can be that colour are glass, spinel and cz although as I think I can see facet doubling the latter three are unlikely.

Yes, that's what I was referencing in the post. Seems weird. Overlay? I have no idea.

It could be the discolouration you sometimes see on old gold. You see it even more on low carat pieces.
Polishing should sort that out, but of course we have no proof it really is gold.:(
It is a very nice ring though.

I just think it's so pretty! Thank you for your help; I didn't know that about low carat pieces.

So do I, and it could be a good one. The question is, are you willing to take a chance on it?:nailbiting:

Is it listed and described as 10k gold? If so then you would be able to return it if it isn’t?
