This is my favorite find for the New Year. From an antique mall, a needlepoint of a flapper wearing jewels, the colors go with my home:

    Hi Marko,
Your flapper reminds me of Myrna Loy. I have a black and white of her lying on a mirror with the same pose.

    Great finds everyone!!!

Just got these, sorry for putty on base of the vase. I might list the ceramic piece in a forum --no idea what that is. (Chinese symbols) on the bottom. ant1.jpg ant2.jpg ceramic1.jpg ceramic2.jpg .

The bowl is not Chinese, it's Japanese Sumida Gawa.

@Marko, some very nice jools as always.

I was thinking that bowl was right up your alley
Lots of good finds! Love the jewelry, the cloisonne and bowl and that needlepoint looks similar to your avatar

Of course, Japanese! Many thanks, Nuff. Japanese Sumida Gawa. You are amazing! (Any idea of age on this piece? Can post photos of the bottom if that would be helpful. The piece is signed, interior has I guess what you would call "drip glaze".) A lot of items at this estate sale were from the 1960's-1970's, would that be about right?

See why I can never buy glassware? I am a complete dummy when it comes to any of it. :) Love the Japanese bowl.

    Thanks guys!

@Lucille, my guess would be first half of the 20th C. Probably early-20th.

Not a dummy, Marko. Once you become familiar with these pieces, they're pretty much EZ to ID. That's how I feel (dummy) when it comes to costume jools.

Here's a piece we picked-up a year or two ago. It's a small boy on the rear of a crab-shaped piece...

    (sorry about the poor images)

Nuff, I want to offer you a huge compliment and thanks. I saw this bowl at an estate sale Thursday, had ZERO idea of value, hesitated slightly because it was $20, but felt it was a bit unique, bottom line I knew could bring it here and someone (hopefully you) would be able to help me ID it. For that reason I took a chance. So many thanks for being here, and kindly sharing your expertise. I'm always amazed at your knowledge. THREE CHEERS for Nuff.

At 40" and not too heavy - I wouldn't butcher a big fat pig on it! I'm guessing it was for beheading chickens.

    Greg,

Where did you get that photo? I happen to own a copy of this exact photograph .... At least I think I still have it.

    Hi Brad,

I had a Good Day, freezing my backside off at a car boot sale. Despite there only being about thirty stalls, I bought yet more brooches: 35 good ones for £17.50. Plus, a super St Bernard Nutcracker and a really nice (albeit unsigned) Strombergshyttan vase which worked out about ten quid for the both. I'm keeping said vase, the doggie will go to a new home.

Here's my butchering pic. Makes me think someone was printing these and peppering sales venues with them ...... LOL! I only paid a buck or two for mine at the thrift store so no big deal but interesting. Mine has what looks like insect damage at the upper right. Yours looks like it has something going on there. Both have the light flare at the right so are from the same negative or one was reprinted from the other.

Mine was posted to the ebay antiques group many years ago. These photos are from then. Wonder if someone snagged it off there to print yours??????? Could be that both are reprints. Both seem to have those horizontal lines going across. I don't know if on mine it is a function of the scan or is really in the pic. Unfortunately, I don't know where my copy is right now and it is possible I may have sold it. I don't remember doing so but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Went into my photo file and found that I created the scan on 5/20/2010.
