I've casually collected Viking ship brooches for a lot of years, no avid searching and never spend much, but have gathered quite a few over the years. Did one of my occasional searches on eBay, wading through the Thai dragon boats, Spanish galleons, Greek triremes, Italian gondolas, and the numerous other boat brooches that have nothing to do with Vikings - then saw an unusual Danish sterling piece with the cutest ever smiling dragon masthead, and a decent size at 1.5". Seller hadn't done their research on the maker, but I knew it was by the esteemed Evald Nielsen (one of my favorites) and while I waited to see if my offer was accepted, found a bit of information on its origin. Appears to be part of an uncommon and light-hearted series from around the end of WWII called 'Humør', translated to 'Mood' or 'Good Mood', designed by Nielsen's younger son and partner Bjarne Weimar - found no other ships, just a few figures, like a horse & rider, little mermaid, ice skater, golfer, and dancer. Happily the seller was prompt in response, and I snagged it as soon as he responded - little guy makes me smile too....

This was the first piece I saw, and immediately coveted - with the info there, continued on:

Tracked down the mermaid brooch on a Danish site devoted to Evald Nielsen, the author has now published a book on EN:

There are a few up for sale now and others already sold, this one is in the original Evald Nielsen/Bjarne Weimar box:

He's now wrapped up and tucked into the box with those here at the house (there are some others in storage), decided to catalogue them, since the memory isn't what it used to be - thought I'd share:

    Beautiful collection!.
I’m in greatest admiration of anyone who catalogues what they have.
The closest mine come to that is the third box down on the left behind the sofa.

I have been trying to catalogue my bottles for the last 3 or 4 years. I need to just take a break from eBay & work on it because by the time I get the photos done of my for sale items I have no time to do my bottles. :(

Eh, used to have most collections catalogued, haven't really kept up on much for years - this was minimal job, didn't even bother to note measurements - mostly, since they're packed in a box, just a quick way to make sure I don't buy one I already have...

That's fabulous, what a beautiful collection!
I'd love to catalogue my cameos and, luckily, my collection isn't too overwhelming as yet. How did you do that, is it some sort of computer program?

I've investigated some inventory programs, and tried a few simple templates, but never really found one that worked particularly well for me. Decades ago, pre-internet, kept detailed handwritten and often illustrated records, with citations - digital cameras were a major game changer! Haven't really had the time for organization of the collections, and a good portion is packed away - I do tuck any relative notes with an item when it's stashed away and usually have a master-list for the boxes. When I do decide to catalogue any particular groups, just take some quick group pictures, add numbers in a photo-editing app, and either include descriptions with the images or as with these, do a simple list on a separate Word document. Hopefully, at some point, will work on better organized and more complete records *snickers mockingly at self*
