Going through my dolls, this one seems pretty old, has composition arms, legs, and head and the body is coarse weave fabric. She has two little white teeth, and there is some damage on her head as shown and on one arm. 20" high. Can anyone help me with an age on it? Thank you!

Hi, sorry I didn't answer sooner but I was out doing some Christmas shopping. Your doll would date between 1930 to the early 40's, after that early plastics would arrive on the scene and the composition dolls would be a thing of the past. There ARE earlier composition dolls dating to the late 1800's but this baby is typical of the later dolls. They are still quite plentiful and yours is in not too bad condition, .. Joy.

My mom had one like this, but the eyes open and close. Also, it has a small mechanical noise-making device in the body which, as I recall, makes a kind of teeny “burp” sound if you pat the doll’s back.

Some of them were to say "mama"!

Yes, many of these babies had those "Mama" discs inside their chests .. after a while they no longer worked well and let out all sorts of odd sounds until they stopped altogether. When I was born in 1942 these dolls were abundant and I remember them as much coveted playthings .. I never had one but NOW I DO !!!! :) :) :) ... Joy.

Love your Dala horse, by the way. My mom's grandmother was a Massachusetts Swede. :)
