I think it is tremendous mostly for Davey but also for our planet.:happy::happy:

I have praised @daveydempsey's efforts before but will happily do it again. I think it is wonderful that he actually makes a concerted effort to not just send anything he doesn't want off to the landfill. I know he can make money recycling items but it does take extra time & effort but is not always cost-effective when you look at the time versus what you end up with in the end.

Many times they are so overwhelmed they just want it all gone.

Sometimes they are not interested in "old stuff", think it is worthless and could care less.

People like that are a God send to dealers like me :woot:

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

it would seem as though uninterested family members.....or those that may not fully know their parents, do indeed just want the stuff gone !!

but I'll bet dollars to donuts if Davey were to show his recent haul...to those 2 step kids...... they'd shit themselves......!!!!;);):inpain:

I bought these Fenton trees at an auction back in August & really did not want them hanging around much longer. I had them sitting isolated on a shelf because I was afraid of damaging the flocking.:rolleyes::facepalm:

I finally got around to listing them last night with a BIN price of $134.99 & woke up to an offer for $125.00 this morning. I have already accepted & the buyer has already paid. :D:D:woot::woot::woot:

I love seeing all of the finds here. Wowzer on those Fenton trees! I went to a thrift before the doors opened yesterday, and a woman beat me to the vintage beads....oh well. I have been buying diamonds in sterling, mostly rings, with the tags on them. Most are from Kohls, some from Walmart, a guy at the flea market has tons. I am getting them for $5 to $15, some earrings, some necklaces, too. But after I got beat out of the beads, I stopped at another thrift yesterday where earrings and pins were half-priced, and I got this for $1. I think it is color change rhinestones, the oval shapes are open-backed. This was a Holy Grail item for me. 20211105_191414.jpg 20211106_155039.jpg

This was a sterling and simulated diamond bridal set I got for $15. I have to post the other items soon. I love this and wear it on my right hand every day- it has amazing sparkle! 20211024_182446.jpg

Alexandrite glass too. Moser made it in bigger pieces; I'm not sure who did the rhinestones.

Two more silver lidded jars from the latest clearance.

I first thought they might be missing from my Victorian vanity case posted earlier, but both are different patterns, not monogrammed and dated 1922 and 1923.

I then had to find out what they were., the oblong one I don't know but the round one I thought might be an inkwell.

Imagine my surprise when I discovered it is a hair receiver.

    upload_2021-11-7_12-56-34.jpeg

Dating from Victorian times through the early 1950s, hair receivers were a fixture on the dressing tables of most fashionable ladies. They were designed to hold hair that was removed from hairbrushes after vigorous brushing, and they resemble vanity jars or powder jars, but with the distinctive feature of having a finger sized opening hole in the centre of the lid. The comb would be run through the bristles of the hairbrush and the resultant hair accumulation would be coiled around a finger and then inserted into the opening of the hair receiver.

The uses of the hair was varied, but most frequently it was used in the creation of RATTS (aka rats) These were sheer hair nets that were stuffed full of the collected hair and then sewn shut. The ladies’ hairstyles of that time were fashionable buns and other "big hair" arrangements. So ratts provided a "stuffing" to enhance these hairstyles!

In addition to this use for the hair kept in hair receivers, ladies also used the collected hair for a variety of other things, including as stuffing in pin cushions, for which the oiled and scented hair of that time was well suited, as it lubricated the pins, making them easier to use. Small other cushions and pillows were also frequently stuffed with hair instead of feathers.

Fascinating! Crowning glories! The Victorians certainly did have a hair cult, there are material culture books written about it. It wasn't considered creepy as some think today.
I must mention the art of hair weaving; into jewelry, wreaths and other keepsake mementos. Some ladies crafted their own at home using platforms similar to bobbin lace techniques, or you could send your personal assortment of locks off to the catalog companies for custom-made watch fobs, bracelets, garters and such. Honestly though, I'm not sure if the hair collected from brushes would be good for this sort of art. I remember my grandmother collecting hers and leaving it out for the birds to make nests with. http://www.victoriana.com/Jewelry/victorian-hair-jewelry.html
