It is hand painted and what I know is that it is very old (propably more than 100years old) and it is quite worthy.

    Height:20cm

    does anyone recognize this sign?

I'm doubtful that's terribly old. Let's see what others think. In meantime, would you tell us more about it? How you acquired it and what you were told about it?

    Thank you Debora.
My grandmother had it in her house. Her husband used to travel a lot as a captain and he was buying antiques from all over the world. Some of the antiques he bought were expensive.

What I wrote to my first post is what I know from my grandmother. No more information I’m afraid.

Fotis, could you show us how thick (or thin) the glass is, a photo of the rim?

I used a 0,50 cents euro coin to see the thickness.

    Nice, thank you.
It reminds me of antique Syrian glass, but it is more likely to be European.
I already tagged someone more knowledgeable for you.

The faded lines in the background of the painted scrollwork - are also painted on..?
    Looks that way.
I do not recognize the glass candy dish and lid.
    Thanks, AJ.

The inner side has no paintings. Everything is on the outer side

Yes the exterior of the glass appears to have been dipped, but in what?
Does it "feel" like paint that could rather easily be scratched off in handling?
    :)

Yes I agree. It looks like it has been dipped to something.
The paint can’t be scratched no. It feels like a Matt silk finish

Sorry, missed the tag. Nice photos.

That shape is typical of pieces made in Empoli and I do think this is from Italy. I'd surmise that someone was buying blanks and decorating them rather well.

(I can see what aj is saying about Syrian - or even Israeli, Palestinian - that random cloudy effect is used a great deal. )

But all in all, I'm favouring post WW2 Italy, especially with that gilding.
