Have been sorting and packing up my Mom's stuff and found this piece I'd given her decades ago (she loved pierced work) - early 20th century, made by the Roger Williams Silver Co., sterling silver with an oak base, measures 7-5/8"/19.4 cm X 3-3/4"/9.5 cm X 1-5/8"/4.1 cm. They're not a particularly common item, sometimes misidentified (also marketed for dual uses), probably found more often in silverplate than sterling, and they were produced in other materials as well...

Hmm, my first thought would be vanity tray.

My first thought was a bread basket but too small.

No one has it yet - should add that the wooden base is not always a feature of these items, actually most are made entirely of one material...

Good job, Komo! Mom knew what it was, but I found it stuffed in the back of her liquor cabinet, tarnished and filled with glass swizzle sticks.

And yes, AJ, I do have a few spoons lying around...

Mom, like me, kept her stray spoons in an EAPG spooner (the pens on her desk also in a spooner) - the one on the left, with a swan, was hers (she had a large water pitcher in the same pattern), the demitasse spoons in front are in a silver deposit sugar:

My family were too broke for fancy silver spoon holders. EAPG for the likes of them. (LOL)
