The backdrop is strange. The foreground is an indoor scene - carpets, tables, chairs - yet the background is open sky (from the photo, stormy open sky). That combined with the almost photographic quality of the people, possibly due to the intense and even lighting of the foreground, are what make it odd.

Family movies in period costume were being made post war (Life with Father -1947, Cheaper by the dozen - 1950). That might be the period on which to concentrate.

 

I'm going to disagree that the costumes are intended to evoke the Civil War era. For one thing, the father is wearing spats which were a late 19th century - early 20th century fashion.

Interesting! I'm currently visiting relatives, and don't have much time. Otherwise, would love to do some research on this. As a prop from a movie it would have some sort of value.

 

View attachment 357786 I could be way off, but found this image from "Holiday for Lovers", a movie Wyman was in. Just struck me as being similar due to her, the guy with a mustache and people on the floor.

definitely meant to be 1900-1910 period based on the clothes and the toys, especially the 4 wheel "Motorized" looking buggy toy...... the one young man reminds me of a very young James Macarthur , who was in RKO movies.
