I am buying this victorian piece of jewelry soon. I honestly have no idea what it is though. The first thought that comes to mind is a pocket watch slider or a bolo tie?? It also has and added loop to be worn as a pendant. Thoughts?

A little more than an inch long and it weighs 12 grams. Also, it tests between 9k and 10k. Seed pearl on the front and the setting rotates...

The block on the back is gold as well and has two holes for a chain to run through

    Fun piece:)
It is a sautoir (long chain) slide!

Yes, a sautoir or guard chain slide. There would have been a leathery or rubbery layer on the inside to keep it from sliding all the way down. Most of the ones I've seen don't have that layer anymore, due to rubbing.

I have a long guard chain with a similar slide. Wish it still had the friction lining in the holes; it won't stay up now. I don't think the ring is there so you can wear it as a pendant. Think it more likely to have been for something, a little pearl maybe, to hang from.

Maybe glue a thin strip of leather in there, using clear nailvarnish as glue so you can remove it?

I would have to open up the chain to take the slide off, even then doubt I would have the dexterity for the task (that darn tremor). Wish I had kyratango's abilities.

If it were here I'd be cheerfully beading it into a necklace - running one strand of beads up each side and turning it into a non-moving pendant. The only hard job would be picking the right beads.

I have had some success with jamming a small piece of cork in these.

I've tried cork with good results for a little while but the cork quickly crumbles and you're back where you started. I've had the best results by slicing a piece of leather into small strips and stuffing them into the holes and moving the chain to seat them. I use a dental tool (steel pick) to stuff them in. Sometimes, I get lucky and the leather wads up and stays on my first attempt. Usually, I have to do this several times. Patience is its own reward!

I forgot to add that these slides are often made into costly bracelets. They're quite interesting. You can find a few of these bracelets listed on ebay (but many are fakes).
Also the loop at the bottom was added not for use as a pendant but for the attachment of a small dangle such as a small pearl.
