Speaking of misadventures by fire.. check out these Fancy Dress costume ideas, from early Butterick and other sources.. and Dennison Paper Company had entire sections on how to make costumes out of crepe paper! Yikes!

 

Speaking of crepe paper. When i was a kid, I used crepe paper to make my dress to look like My Fair Lady at the races for Halloween,
I could not move, walk or be comfortable wrapped up like a mummy in white paper with black accents. And that was the last time I ever tried to be crafty.

After that I went trick or treating for years as a hobo, comfy and easy to put on and take off.

 

Ah yes.. uncomfortable costumes.. don't get me started... layers of latex, prosthetics and grease paint, corsets, high heels, SFX contacts, wig head-aches, hardware, batteries, breaking a hip tripping over things I did not see because of my SFX contacts, etc..... had to ditch the alluring Baroness Reuwsaat persona due to advancing age. Now it's straight zombie, minimal decay enhancement required!

Here is my recreated 1892 Butterick Bat lady dress. I did a lot of research years ago on Victorian Fancy Dress costumes. Royal Doulton. They made a whole line of tableware forms, in this color , in a variety of transferware borders, and a cream ground too, with different transferware borders. Cranky Etsy won't let me grab an image.

 

Definitely something to watch for but I am sure it is not easy to find out in the wild.

LOL!! I think I bought one of those...Wickedpierogi's Mama is a true Salem witch. She has an absolutely fab collection of all sorts of witch decorative arts. Daniel Lowe silver, Hubley bookends, the Petersyn witch fortune-telling teacups in several rare colors, etc... I want to go meet those two!
