IMG_3970 (1).jpg IMG_3971 (2).jpg Bought this today at a thrift shop. I have not been able to figure out anything about it despite a day spent googling. The brown beads are definitively wood with what looks like older bead caps. I don't think any of the stones are real, assume plastic. The barrel shaped carved bead intrigued me which is why i bought the necklace - i dont think there is a seam on it. The chain feels heavier. I would think brass but have no idea how to test really. There are no markings or clasps. The rings look like they are wrapped in a suede like material. Any ideas? Is this likely a new piece?

I would think that was a recent-ish made in China piece. Let's see what others think.

I agree with home craft necklace. Maybe 1980-90s.
Someone came across that pretty focal bead and wanted to do something with it, adding bits and pieces they had. As Debora said, intentionally asymmetrical. It could work when you see it on.

The pretty focal bead looks Chinese, could be carved tagua nut, but we would have to see it up close.

Yes, exactly. Statement jewelry for those on a budget. And no shame.

I agree that it’s a commercial piece. I don’t see this as a crafter piece and I see it as no earlier than 80s and probably later.

I saw tons of similar designs on close-out around 8-10 years ago - bought several for $3-4 each to salvage some nice focal beads and interesting findings...
