Brass fittings? What the heck did I buy now?

    I found a gelato pint container full of these 4 inch long (about 10cm) cast brass bits for $2. I figured the scrap weight was more than the price tag, so that had to be a good deal. But...what are they? There's a spot for a bolt/metal screw to go through the wood and into the back, and a square hole for what's probably a knob. That said I think these hang vertically since there's no second screw attachment, and they're all alike. No rights/lefts.

    Looks like the backer to a drop bail [ring] drawer pull.

    A ring/teardrop pull with the square shaped mounting screw would fit in there:

    I've never seen one with that other mounting hole, personally. But I think that's what it is. See what the other hardware folks think.

    Sure looks like the right square bit. Now for the obvious - I wonder what happened to the rest of the piece! Some have some weathering, so these probably weren't sitting in a drawer somewhere.
