    Can anyone explain how this is meant to be used? It doesn't follow the normal cash register layout, seems to be missing something $_57 - 2021-10-18T145155.110.jpg $_57 - 2021-10-18T145210.201.jpg $_57 - 2021-10-18T145140.160.jpg $_57 - 2021-10-18T145127.580.jpg $_57 - 2021-10-18T145115.120.jpg $_57 - 2021-10-18T145056.236.jpg

The plaque (which can't be read in your photographs) carries lots of information including the manufacturer. Have you done a Google Image search to see if you can find another? One that's intact?

This may not help but it's got a detail photo and description of the wheel thing (I think) but I don't know if it's from yours.

890,113. Autographic registers. GROSS, H., and GROSS, S. July 14, 1958 [July 15, 1957], No. 22336/57. Class 16 In a combined autographic register and cash till, the transactions are written through an aperture on to a paper sheet carried by a rotatable disc which is rotated by movements of the cash drawer or by a hand-operated key. As shown, the apparatus comprises an inner frame 11, an outer cover 14 bolted to the frame, a hinged top lid 16 having a writing aperture 17, and a disc 21 rotatably mounted beneath the lid 16. The disc has ratchet teeth 23 engagable by a driving pawl 24 which can be actuated by a key 27 on a pivoted lever 25. A spring-urged lever 41 has a roller 40 thereon which engages the teeth 23 to register the disc 21 and prevent a reverse rotation thereof. A hand-lever 47 is provided for reeasing the roller 40 to enable the disc to be rotated freely by a knob 45. The stroke of the pawl 24 is controlled by stops, and the nose of the pawl is held within the teeth 23 of the disc 21 during the working stroke by an abutment plate 39. A circular paper sheet 50 is held on the disc by register pins 51, and the sheet has annular writing zones 54-56 printed thereon: the sheet also has an annular series of numbers 52 thereon corresponding to the numbers of teeth 23 on the disc, and these are exposed through an aperture 57 in the lid 16. The key-operated lever 25 moves a latch to release a spring-urged cash drawer 12 when the disc 21 is being rotated: this arrangement can be modified so that a partial depression of the key 27 releases the cash drawer without rotating the disc 21. In another modification, the driving pawl 24 is actuated to rotate the disc 21 by the movement of the cash drawer when it is released by depressing the key 27: or the cash drawer is not spring-loaded, and is adapted to actuate the driving' pawl 24 when it is opened or closed.
