A couple of questions - does anyone know the proper term for this heavily gilt enameled handled plate? It can't be a cake plate because the handle is too low. Is the monogram SSH? I really have a hard time with monograms when the script is so fancy. Thank you for looking. IMG_3988 (2).jpg IMG_3990.jpg IMG_3991.jpg IMG_3992.jpg IMG_3993.jpg IMG_3998.jpg IMG_3987.jpg

The maker of the blank doesn't matter, just the mystery decorator. For the monogram, I see G and M with S in the center.

Not worried about the maker - trying to figure out thought what this type of plate with low handle is called?

    It's a handled server - I'm not sure there's a more specific term.

I've seen those handles from time to time, usually on lower quality depression glass type items. I think I even have a chrome one in the basement that I took off an old plate. Didn't add anything, the plate was not very nice to begin with. Other than serving plate, I can't think what else you could call this. Maybe something to serve little cakes or cookies or whatever is low and will fit under the handle. The plate is very nice.

I'm going back to what I learned on Downton Abbey. Didn't they say that the table would be set with a plate like this one, beautiful, yet not real practical to eat from? Then when the courses start to be served, they take this plate away and set down new plates for whatever course is up. Just guessing now. I was also wondering if "decorated in the USA" means only applying the monogram?

@laura9797 If you are selling this plate, I think it will sell quickly as a serving plate even with the monogram (nobody can read them anyway).
