ID Settee

looking for more info on this beautiful settee, or even begin to look into it further. There are zero marks, engravings, labels, initials... nothing! New on this form but usually pretty good at finding this info... turning up zero for this and the table in my other post

Yep, ca. 1900 oak settee, probably part of a multi-piece parlor set that also would have included arm chairs and side chairs. Yours is unusually ornate; the piercework trim looks more like 1860 than 1900. A very nice piece and well worth keeping. Not much for resale, at least until the renaissance of brown furniture occurs.

 

Somewhere in a reupholstery process, it appears to have lost a bit of stuffing.

The wood is certainly elegant. Brown wood is allegedly making a comeback, and this one is dramatic enough that I could see it selling. The buyer would need to repuholster it to suit.

 

Really nice as is, but probably started life upholstered in silk or gobelin.
