    Hello everyone,

Posting this piece of ephemera for y'all.

Was wondering what everyone makes of the saying on the back...

Why was it written? Is it normal?

    Thanks in advance! IMG_4101.JPG IMG_4105.JPG

Can anyone give me a full "quote" of this. A few words I'm uncertain of. For example the word find, is that a "you" in front of it?

Hahaha He was a classy looking gent!

I wonder if it was a party game. Each diner has a question to ask the others - and the answer in case they didn't know.

Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do you even so unto them. Matthew 7:12, King James Version

What ever happened to "do unto others and run"?

Dunno, but if a guy who looks that good at his age was doing it to me, dunno as I'd be inclined to run. :)

Cute! Wondering, for what male name is "Mer" a nickname? Merwin, maybe? Any others?

ScanticAntiques, do you have any background on this item? I'm finding at least two Merwin Garlands... one from Fredonia, NY comes up a lot (lived 1899-1976) and the other one was born in Texas in 1888, living in San Antonio in 1920.

(I know that identifying the person in this case may not be too important. The place card is most interesting for the inscription on the back, and also the handsome fellow decorating the front.)

My guess, the NY fellow. I bought it at a flea market in MA. A lady was selling a ton of paper advertising cards etc. and I just like the hand painted watercolor of the man :) Unfortunately no other info from where or when it came :(

I'm just speculating about the name... still don't know if "Mer" can be a nickname for some other name.

and for best results, do it first.

This seems dangerously radical. Or a Sadie Hawkins day slogan.

I believe that is a fancy M and his name is Mr. Garland.

He looks like the Moxie man to me. Parlor games were very popular and I agree with the person who said this was a Q&A game.

Parlor games were very popular so the speculation may be correct! :)

Ah -- had not thought of that. You may be correct.

The first part is the question: "Where in the Bible do we find authority for women to kiss men?" and the answer is the biblical reference given above.
