Hi all! Apologies, I wasn't sure which forum to post this one in-it's lacquered wood but not antique. I'm hoping to you help be describe this little rattle better and give me and indication if it is modern or vintage. I am guessing it is hand-painted and Russian; that's all I got! What is "Rempoba" or "Nempoba" signed on the base? Any other information you can provide me with? I can't find anything exactly like it. It is 4"H x 2.25"W. Thank you!

Does it open? It looks like part of a nesting doll set.

I thought so! But it seems to be shut or glued tight and it rattles (like not the rattling of other dolls on the inside but lots of bits)Perhaps it was once a nesting doll that was turned into a rattle.

Or it's stuck. The smaller dolls moving around inside would sound like a rattle.
Get someone really strong to twist it open for you.

I can't believe that so many dolls inside would have any room to rattle. Have you managed to put them all back in yet?

That gold pot, with the little blue and white cup on top that Santa is holding is a samovar.
I wonder, is leaving hot tea for Santa the Russian equivalent of milk and cookies?

    That is so cute!
Judging from his red nose and cheeks, the little pot contains something other than tea.;)

    I agree that is adorable.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The letters on the bottom translate to Petrova, I think. Maybe the surname of the person who painted it? I agree, very cute!
