  3. Yes this is what I purchased,

but I think they marked it as European because they too can’t tell what the mark is- listing says (unknown designer) They said it was an eagle head but you can tell it’s a uniformed shape with some type of lettering. Eagle heads are not inside shapes, and are irregular.

I’m sure if it were not as expensive they too would have sent it to van cleef. But it’s too costly now at 2k

  5. Actually no- 1stdibs is pretty good. I’ve negotiated some good pieces on there. Got a Robert coin princess flexible bracelet for $3000! Retail is $9,900.

Eagle heads for large items are in uniform shapes with numbers, but I wouldn't think this would qualify as large.

Do you have a photo of what they said was an eagle head mark on yours?

  7. Nope. They had no picture of the eagle head. And in that shape it definitely doesn’t look like any kind of eagle head. At least not to me.

no matter how I look at it, it’s missing a lot of distinct features that indicate an éagel

  8. Correction **. It says European markers mark*. Which I am still not sure how they conclude that with the photo

Looks like a French eagle head mark to me.... http://www.silvercollection.it/DICTIONARYEUHALLMARKFRANCE.HTML

  10. This is the photo they took of the mark. It really looks very muddled

Oh, they meant the VCA mark. No, that isn't an eagle head.:playful:
It isn't as crisp as the usual VCA marks though, neither is the 750 mark.

That most recent picture seems to show 750 on the left and then an Italian gold/silver shaped cartouche on the right. Can't see what's inside it, but it does seem to have the right kind of letters or numbers inside.

  13. The 750 is the clearest part of the piece. It is stamped deeply.

  14. Maybe this will help. I have marked the area that are indented in the piece. As you can see those areas don’t make numbers

  15. It’s definitely not silver - was tested as 18k completely through

  16. I was hoping that maybe someone has seen a pice similar or some stamp similar etc. It’s clearly very old to have been worn

Yes - 750 is for gold - the shape is used for both varieties of precious metal.

  18. Thanks. Welp. Guess we gave it a good go. May never really know unless I dish out the 2k or find a reputable appraiser that knows

I know it says 750 and VCA, we have been talking about that since the start. But as I said before, those marks are just not as crisp as I would expect on a Van Cleef & Arpels piece.
