    Hi Everyone! I hope you are all doing well!

    I have this ring and wanted to know if it is Italian or American made. It has a 800 mark and from my research it was a common mark in Italy and was used from 1872 to 1933. I am not sure and would love it if someone could confirm or give me the correct info about this piece. Also, It looks like mother of pearl, but could it have been colored to give it that illusion?.     It's a mother of pearl cameo of Athena. MOP can be dyed, but there is no reason to think this isn't natural. The 800 on the outside of the shank says European.

    800 was still used in Germany, Austria, and Italy until the 70s, sometimes even later.

    The cameo would be Italian, but may have been set elsewhere.

    I guess I was only looking at the romans not the ladies. Thank you for posting the images. How old do you think this piece might be? I know it is a slim shot that it is antique, but would like to have an idea. Thank you

    When I saw this thread I was highly curious as to what a helmet ring is. In case you ever encounter something similar, a figure wearing one of these helmets is always Athena. Athena always wears a helmet but not always one of this type. In the glyptic world it is called a satyr's face.

    Very nice! I've never seen a helmet with a face done in mother-of-pearl before.
