Wooden basket marked by prior owner 1970, Vienna Austria. Two Teak Figural Bird Salt and Pepper shakers
These are Mid Century, I did not know where to post them. Bought together at a garage sale. Were they together when new? Any other comments on country of origin for shakers, would be appreciated.

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Nice!! Are you sure they are birds?? My first thought was bears, but I can be 'out in left field' too!!!

I know nothing about these. To me the basket/carrier definitely looks older (and also has a more craft style) Maybe the shakers themselves are also craft? I think that sticker/note only refers to the basket.

Nesting bear shakers, Don Shoemaker or copies of his design - the basket is unrelated...

I sincerely hope that won't happen if you come across a bear in real life.:nailbiting:

I am back again to Thank All of You, especially Cheryl. After looking at other Nesting Bears Shakers, I know these are original. They are marked Mexico and have the arrangement of the pouring holes are in an X on one and in a O on the other.

Should I mention that Shoemaker was thinking 'elephant' when e designed them? Always good to mention both 'bear' and 'elephant' when selling them...

Cheryl, that is good to know because I say one pair listed as elephant shakers. With a laugh I thought I went from a bird to a bear and now an elephant.

I learned a lot from this thread. I am not sure if I would have recognized what they were either. Thanks all.

yes, they are marked Mexico. I did not see the markings when I sent the original post. Also, I did not notice the difference in he pouring holes arrangement. My 5 year old Grandson pointed that out to me. Look GM they are different.
