Came along with what looks to be a Mexican silver cuff bracelet (although seller insisted her mother, a Cherokee Indian made it). Some sort of metal, no markings. Any ideas of what this may be other than, indeed, free stuff! I suspect this is what her mother made.... Thanks!

Older castings at that, with poured glass plaques. I suspect pot metal and that they started life as something else. They look old.

Thanks owned -- pot metal sounds logical. Poured glass huh? I confess to not know much of anything about jewelry....now I have at least a keyword or two to work with. Much appreciated!

Most of the time that enamel style isn't very old, 90s or later generally. I'd love to see the bracelet too.

From the back it looks like they've been repaired; like the looped border has broken free in places and been soldered.

Thanks for responding. Looking with a loupe I do see small larger droplets of solder that look brighter and could be repairs. But not blobs so pretty carefully done.

Here is the cuff bracelet. Bought on local swap meet since I felt sorry for struggling grandma -- not because I necessarily purchase baubles. Not polished. Marked 925 on both ends.

That might be a straight up artisan piece rather than Mexican. Are those carved malachite faces or something else?

Most likely malachite faces. The one in the center looks "not carved" but a natural bumpy form -- the flanking ones are carved into faces. What's a straight up artisan piece? A jewelry maker's work? Or?

A lot of Mexican pieces are artisan - made by a bench jeweler in fairly limited quantities. This could be something from a 50s jewelry-making class rather than something from a professional silversmith. Or as AF would put it, two blokes in a shed.

Two blokes.... I like that! It's a good thing I had no illusions about worthiness when I bought. Guess chalked it up to the good deed for the day! Thanks for the info!

Bracelet definitely looks homemade, better than the average student. :) I can't see a Cherokee using pot metal?
