I picked up this vintage lidded jar today. Has a face on one side and squared spiral pattern on the reverse side. It also has a makers mark on the base that I am not familiar with and can't quite read. Hoping someone here might recognize it. Any advice or insight would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

    It says Fanaloza, from Chile.

What size is it? It looks like it would make a nice Halloween cookie jar. Although I doubt that it was made with Halloween in mind. It's really nice.

It was inspired by pre-Columbian face jars.:)

    Loza means "ceramics" in Spanish.

Company's been in business since 1899. Seem to have abandoned making these type of decorative items for the home. Here's a 1971 catalog which still uses that logo. You can see from the column to left on cover that they were still producing loza then.

That would make sense, the style of the jar looks 1970s to me.

I too think 1970s about right. One could always contact the company and ask. Or the local museum has a 284-piece collection of Fanaloza. They could also be contacted.

Yes, that is what the company produces now. That is the reason I gave you a second contact -- for the local museum -- which may be more knowledgable about its previous product line.

Oh, I see. I really like the jar. Too bad they can't make that kind of product now.

Ditto! Size does matter--I just assumed it was a cookie jar.
