Featured A 2.45 Million USD Vase?

Sold yesterday at Doyle in NYC, Gee Whiz!
I've said it before & I'll say again, pottery people are nuts!
It's Chinese so I am guessing that had something to do with that number.

Was trying to load the GIF file and forum made me do CRAZY stuff to make it fit and now it's all JUMPY! Blames pottery people!

 

It is also amazing that the pre-sale estimate was so far off..

LOL! If they were all that findable, one little old broken one wouldn't cost 2.45M. The image on the vase is odd to me. When I read up on this style (featuring foreigners), it became much clearer but I still don't like the image. Even so, if I saw this somewhere "out there", I wouldn't look twice because I don't really like it and it would never occur to me that it was Chinese (not with those faces).

 

Every category has its nuts, including painted furniture

 

Ugly like hell as far as I'm concerned (and I wouldn't have bought it for $10 if I'd seen it somewhere,) but there's a buyer for everything, and I wouldn't have recognized its value.

Painted Cupboard with Paint MIA!

 

It looks like the paint fled to the inside of the cupboard. Is that blue I see?

 

Yes, it's blue but, it's not original. You can see the original paint on the interior in worn spots, a cream color.

 

The more I look at that two mil plus vase, the uglier it gets. Then again for 2 million plus I'd give it house room ... until I could get it to auction anyway!
