Unfortunately work got in the way of being able to go treasure hunting this weekend so I popped into a charity shop to see if there was anything interesting. Mostly rubbish but found a couple of bits.
I’m not normally a fan of plastic but I love this caramel coloured necklace and I think it is vintage?
It’s got seams so isn’t Bakelite or similar but I wonder how old it is?. It is translucent in places. It’s really long, I think designed to double over and still hang mid/low bust level.
The diamanté paste necklace is nice as prong set, slightly open back and stamped Made Czechoslov on the split ring.
The black beads are just lovely glass marked made in Austria.
    Any thoughts welcome :)
    Thanks for looking

I think I’ve used the wrong term, the smaller gems aren’t prong set, it’s when a bit of metal is pushed over the edge of the gem. Don’t know what that’s called?

The photos are too out of focus, but the stones look like they are bur/bead set.

The plastic beads are probably West German or Japanese sixties.

I also think bead set for the paste necklace.
Which is why it is commonly called French jet.:hilarious:
Most French jet was made in Bohemia, btw, very French.:joyful:

So French Jet that’s actually not French or Jet , made in Czechoslovakia and put together in Austria?
And we wonder why confusion sets in…..:hilarious:

And Bohemia became Czechoslovakia when…..? And presumably was split into other countries possession too?

The history of Bohemia is bewilderingly complicated.:arghh:
But skipping to the 20th century, Bohemia was first part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.
Then it became Czechoslovakia, together with Moravia and Slovakia. Czechoslovakia had different names which we won't go into.:wacky::dead:
In 1992 Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic (Bohemia and Moravia) and Slovakia. The Czech Republic is also called Czechia.
Bohemia and Moravia are still happily married.:hungover:

The two both sent a pile of people to the USA; a lot of them ended up in Pennsylvania. Southern PA still has a lot of Moravian cultural influence, and not just the Christmas cookies. Not sure were the Bohemians landed.

We had a large population settle in and around St. Louis , Mo around 1849. Still many around that speak native language and German. A friend of mine comes from that stock.
