Hi everyone. I am trying to find out about this clock pendant my Mom has given me to figure out if it's worth anything.

It's a Bucherer clock with "swiss made" on the bottom. I tried to upload some pictures but they were too large so here is an Imgur link with 3.

This is hard to identify because this cone shape seems to be nowhere online that I can find, not on Ebay, Google, etc. I bought a cheap gold test kit and it seems the area surrounding the clock face as well as the housing is 14k gold and the chain is 10k.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I'll help with the resizing. If you are using your phone for pics, try emailing them to yourself as size medium. Limit on this site is 1MB.

These were a 1960s fashion item. They rarely still work; most weren't quality watches.

This one works just fine. I just wound it and I can hear it ticking. It could use a polish but the housing and face is in great condition.

Bucherer are a quality watchmaker, their items are quite valuable.

Better than the usual run of pendant fashion watch by an order of magnitude then.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Identification of the maker really helps you here, @XrazerX ,as Davey mentioned.

Just a month ago somebody posted a query about a watch of a similar shape. Different in a few ways, and different maker... but you mentioned you hadn't found any others of a cone shape. Here is a link to that discussion thread:

This is interesting, thanks for the link. The main difference I think, at least from where I sit is that I tested the casing, face, and chain and they are all gold. Not sure if it's solid, filled, or plated, but gold came back with the 10k and 14k solution test.

There is no magnetic response at all to anything in the casing, face or chain. Does anyone know if it's common to gold plate over brass? If not, it could be actual gold.

    Thanks

I would think that if it was gold and from the modern time, then it should be marked somewhere on both chain and watch.

I thought the same thing. I don't know if anyone has used one of these liquid gold testing kits but it's stupid easy. You make a scratch on this blackboard-looking 2x2 piece of something they give you with the portion of the material you want to test, and add the 10k liquid to it. If it stays there, it's 10k or higher. If it gets dissolved, it's less than 10k gold, meaning not gold. Then you progress to the 14k liquid, same thing. If it stays, you use the 18k liquid, when it dissolves, you know it's the one beneath it.

The face and housing dissolved at 18k, meaning it's 14k gold, and the chain dissolved at 14k, meaning it's 10k. I don't know how accurate it is, but I did have two real watches appraised at a jewelry store last month and she tested them in the same way.

It usually works but sometimes it's deceptive. Really good gold-filled can fool the test. There may be marks on the inside of the watch casing if it's solid gold.

Do you guys think I could take this apart without damaging anything? I have some pretty precise tools for working on smartphones and computers and the like. I've never tried though. I could check for markings on the inside.

If you can find the "pry spot" and have the right tools, it would be safe enough. Nicer watches were meant to be repaired and there had to be a way to safely open the case.
