This might sound crazy but for some reason polychrome keeps popping up when I look at this plate and I am not sure why.

    8 1/2"
There are 3 white areas where the enamel has been chipped off or flaked off.

How long has this method of enameling and these bright and vibrant colors been around?

I was thinking maybe Chinese or Japanese The foot on this plate has me thinking early 1900s I would love to hear opinion from others who are much more knowledgeable on pottery than myself. I got into this love late in my life. I have only been in this love of pottery for about 15 years, that sort of make me a freshman, 20181122_083132.jpg 20181122_083139.jpg 20181122_083148.jpg 20181122_083157.jpg 20181122_083310.jpg 20181122_083320.jpg 20181122_083333.jpg compared to others on this board.

A lovely plate, Mugz. The bird is a Chinese phoenix, which always looks like a glorified pheasant.;)
Polychrome is the name for anything multi-coloured, so it is the right term for this too.
It is Chinese, and the more precise term is Famille Noir. Noir means black, and when the dominant colour on Chinese polychrome porcelain is black it is called Famille Noir.
It has age, but the photos are a bit blurry to judge it properly.

"The foot on this plate has me thinking early 1900s." I live to learn - what about this foot suggests age?

Probably the unglazed quality of it. If it were glazed, the piece would have raised on three 'points' so the foot wouldn't be sealed to the kiln floor, a more recent development.

If that be the case, "dbgjwc" would it be too far-fetched to speculate Made in Japan for the Chinese Market?

Sorry, that's a question I can't answer with any certainty but I would think if it was meant for the Chinese market the mark would not be in English.

I think in that case it would be Japanese in the Chinese manner.

Thanks AJ Mat KikoBlutEyes Cherryhill jgbjwc janetpjohn Silver Wolf for all the wonderful input seem to me like the country of origin is most likely China, but remember that I am only a Freshman. And a very special thanks to Mat for nailing the origin, and AJ for defining Famille Noir and poly-chrome.

by the way my speculation on the foot as a means of determining the age of the piece comes from watching too many Peter Comb video pure speculation by me base on the whiteness and neatness of the glaze and the roundness of the foot Thanks Cherryhill for providing cover for me.

Japanese for sure. The footrim is a bit Chinese looking.
If not wrong, Chinese Famillie Noir is rare, especially the Kangxi one.
