Can anyone make out this signature? Can't seem to find anything

Hi there, I have no idea how to use this forum so apologies in advance. I have this Giraud Limoges 20 piece tea set and it is signed but I can't make out the name and am trying anywhere that might be able to help?I see what looks like J thenlikethe top half of an a or o or maybe a period or dash, then looks like mar. ? Please tell me if I did this all wrong posted in the wrong place and am just a nuisance. thanks.

 

Hello, Laura. You should have started a thread of your own regarding this set to get the best exposure. It would also be best to attach a picture of the maker's mark from the bottom of a piece in addition to the pictures you have already uploaded.

I get the impression that the closeup is a signature of the decorator - are all the pieces signed?

 

thank you . I'm sorry I couldnt figure out how to a start a new thread. I'll try again. I added a photo of the makers mark and another of the artists signature. that signature is on all 8 cups and the teapot

First this may not be a set for tea. The tall pot with its spout right up under the lid, is not normally for tea, but rather for coffee or chocolate. You can certainly use it for whatever you care to, but if you intend to sell, you should call it coffee or chocolate.

The signature is too obscure to determine the identity of the decorator, and also is entirely possible to be that of a hobbyist. I have a number of circa 1900 inherited pieces that were signed by a professional decorator - and those signatures have complete surnames and very carefully written. I also collect hobbyist decorated pieces and those signatures are less neatly written and more likely not to be complete. It's hard to say which yours are.
