Wowzer on these amazing finds. I have a friend whose MIL went into assisted living and she let me take whatever I wanted of the jewelry the family didn't want. I also went to an annual flea market today.....will try to get some pics up soon.

Brass actually has proven anti bacterial and anti viral properties.

It's in the same ballpark with silver and copper in that regard; they all kill bugs.

I handed her back a great 10k Italian necklace. She is too good of a friend.

The manager at $avers knows I like old metal stuff, today she asked if I would want to buy a weathervane because she just saw one in their trash bin headed for the compactor. I said “yes please, go save it”. This is what she came back with, she priced it $9.99. I had a half off $50 or less coupon so I got it (with a few other fun items) for $5.
It’s about 3 feet long, needs a little tweaking and bending.
Sorry, horrible photo but there’s no plain backgrounds at my workshop.

The manager that saved it typically works at the front of the store but occasionally helps in the back sorting/pricing and rolling out merchandise. The sorting crew is always short staffed and they’re mostly on the younger side. I don’t believe they know or care about antiques, it’s all junk to them. The same manager pulled a Marx gravel truck and a Wolverine coal truck out of the trash a couple weeks ago knowing I’d want them. I try not to think of all the good stuff that gets trashed.

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

That's a good case for hiring senior employees ........

One of my new neighbors...a young black woman....has a big cat that she lets outdoors.
She was leaving water and cat food out on the back porch for it....

None of the young folk living there could understand why the squirrels, raccoons, and skunks were frequenting their back yard.................:stop:;):wideyed::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::banghead:

I guess kids gotta learn...by doing ! :meh:

reinventing the wheel, much? This is why having a bunch of us old farts around is useful. We already made the dumb mistakes, and we know enough not to throw antique weathervanes in the trash. At worst they belong in the metal recycling. :hungover::hungover::grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

I collect Panamanian Molas, but to tell the truth, the newer ones I find usually have simpler and simpler stitching and designs. (Apparently it's another case where younger people are less interested in the old handicrafts and the time they take.) So I was jazzed to find this one for $12-- it's better than most I see. Maybe a griffin?

    Great finds everyone! :)

(Can't believe they were going to trash that weather vane.)

Got kind of a cool item yesterday, I might post in forums too, as I can't find anything like it online. Need thoughts on how I should list this.

It is a paperweight award/commendation for someone who worked at The New Yorker magazine 1960s-80s. I got it late in the day at a garage sale yesterday and the former owner shouted over that her husband got because he worked at the New Yorker in Manhattan. What caught my eye initially was that it was stamped Tifanny and CO. Basically a clear glass 2 1/2" cube with the NY logo and 20 year date span.

Better photos later but you get the idea:
