S. J. Bailey and Sons Dresser - should I refinish?

As I always state in my posts, I refinish furniture as hobby. I picked up a dresser for $2 at an estate sale. I always take before and after pictures and I noticed this furniture had a label. I love to know the history of pieces and when I searched on it I came up information on the label as well as a picture of a like dresser that just sold for over $400. I thought this was a cheaper pine dresser and was just going to strip it to see what it looks like. Question - for pieces like this, does stripping and refinishing lower the resale value? I know it depends on what someone wants/likes but I hate the thought of cheapening a piece. (Most of the people I offer things to want them painted anyways). I have added some pictures. dresser1.jpeg dresser1.jpeg dresser2.jpeg dresser3.jpeg dresser4.jpeg

    should I refinish?

Why not? or paint it even.
Thinks this furniture was sold unfinished so the buyer could finish as they wished.

My sister and BiL looked at this sort of furniture a long time ago. It was a fad; you bought the raw piece and then stained or painted it as desired. There's no reason not to mess with this.

Used to sell this brand of furniture in the late 80s. It was about the cheapest, decent quality, solid wood furniture you could buy. Sold unfinished and customers would paint or stain. The advent of cheaper particle board fake wood grained stuff pretty much did the unfinished furniture business in.
