I think this has a little age to it but the catholic charm has me baffled. Anyone have any thoughts or input? Thank you so much

Probably someone just tagged it on.

I thought the same but it really matches the metal and patina

Pretty funny juxtaposition. The Virgin Mary with a Czech glass cameo of Psyche. I agree the religious medallion is an add on. May have been done long ago & they have aged together.

It may have been sold like that. Back in the 1950s Catholic religious jewelry wasn't favored and there was still some prejudice against Catholics. (see Kennedy election) They used to tag little medals like this onto random pieces of costume jewelry so it wouldn't be too obvious that one was wearing a religious medal. Later on it was no big deal and the medals got bigger and were worn on their own.

There still is here in the Netherlands, even though Catholics are the religious majority. The result of centuries of Holland-dominated Calvinist Protestant rule, when the Catholic southern provinces were treated as backward colonies.
We in the south are backward, and proud of it!:smug::hilarious:

More likely a photo, but it could also have easily been a religious image originally - Our Lady of Lourdes and Our Lady of Fatima would be common.
