And a heckuva lot easier to get than a porthole off the Egypt! Just thinking about that sort of work gives me the willies.

Few things I've got this last few weekends ... some boxes to store STUFFS in ( all boxes already full to burstin')
    Think this is a pounce pot. ( it's 3 inches/8 cms)
Don't think it's solid, can see some dings.
Love it though, was 50p. ( The big yellow-y looking area is reflection)

Has BB scratched into the underside

Is this a pyrography box, friends? Quite big, 10 inches across[IMG]
    I love the painting

Two I think silver thimbles, both from different dealers
    [IMG]

Someone told me this was a pencil holder! Could be anything as I'm clueless
I looked for the mark ( wasn't entirely sure of it was a B or an eszett)
After labouring through loads, saw only one vaguely similar (Jason Braham ) and looked, said he was from Ewyas Harold which is mere miles up the road, thought was likely it due to vicinity but ... wasn't.

    Oh one last thing xxx
Is this a plate? It's 6 inches all around (15 cms)

THat's a pepperette, I'd say. Your plate is a teapot stand, and the thing with holes is for joss sticks. Box looks Eastern European.

Left hand thimble is Chester, I'll bet it's Charles Horner.

    Off to have a look!

Thank you my lovely! ( don't think it's for joss sticks, the holes are far too big, I have loads of joss stick holders ) xxx
    omg I didn't give a size, I was sure I had!
It's lost! WTH have I put it...fgs xx
STILL cannot find the dam thing...it's about pencil sized anyway xxx

(Meant to add I thought that the shape of the pepperrete was very similar to early 19Cth pounce pots, but I'm always off the mark ) xxx
Does look just like a pepperette, now I've looked...(I have no idea where I've put this holey thing to measure,my house has eaten it fgs)

Those thimbles are works of art. I have yet to find a silver one. I picked this old sampler up yesterday, I loved it because since my husband retired,he loves to garden and we have a beautiful yard. It looks better than the pic, it is a bit distorted from resizing. 20210906_104709.jpg

Re the argillite (somewhat belatedly, I've been away): it is hard to second-guess an artist; there could have been reasons for doing the piece that way rather than other ways. Wonder if there was a commission, or just a desire to showcase what a raw chunk of argillite looks like. Reminds me of things I've seen done with turquoise, where a large chunk has a carving added to it, rather than being cut up into jewelry-sized pieces. There was, or may still be, a store in Anacortes that had a large display featuring unusual and non-jewelry carvings in turquoise.
Certainly there can be uses for large chunks of argillite; I recall a gallery opening with Christian White pieces where one object could best be described as a tureen, in that one could have served a gallon of soup in it - it was over a foot long, and just stunning...as was the $25,000 price tag.

For sure. Christian White was at the opening I mentioned, standing beside the piece with the price tag; and he had some good stories about the trip to get argillite; including that older carvers might pay younger ones to make the trip, rather than undertaking the harrowing journey themselves, coming back down with 60 pounds of argillite in a back-pack.

Here is something a bit off from the expected - rough phone pics, sorry. A charm bracelet, but not the usual 70's affair. The bracelet has fancy links with Viking ship panels, some stamped 'silver'. The charms are substantial and some look early. The only similar thing I could find was a Chester bracelet hallmarked 1957.

To me the bracelet doesn't seem British, so my suspicion is a Scandi bracelet repurposed as a charm bracelet perhaps in the 40's/50's with some earlier charms added in for good measure. (Oh, the spring ring is a brass replacement, probably a mid 20th century one). Thoughts...

I think you're spot on. There's four evenly spaced Viking style ships, which would have worked well as a bracelet. I'd take the other charms off and put a proper silver spring ring back. I also agree some charms are older: that agate is a fob, as are two others. Moon face is old, too.

Thanks, and yes I'll have to decide what to do with it. The two do look like fobs, the agate pic is deceptive as it's open on the other side so was probably a pendant rather than a fob.
